150+ images captured tonight, not even 30 worth keeping. Sometimes it just goes like that. And the wrong team won bncry.gif

    Steven,

I think you did well. Considering the lighting and the speeds you were forced to use, a 20% keeper rate is pretty darn good clap.gif

If you shot these in RAW you can still do quite a bit with them. I noticed some were a bit on the dark side ne_nau.gif As I mentioned, if you captured these shots in RAW you can push the expose up a bit. Or, you could brighten them up some during post (level, curves, or fill flash action).

F2.8 is tough to work with in these poorly lit gyms rolleyes1.gif Other than picking up something faster or using ISO3200, ya done what you could :D

    Steve

PS, if you don't mind, I'd like to d/l that first pic and try a little post processing on it, wen I get home?

I'm always happy with coming away with 30 good ones! I particularly like the way the first one captures her intensity.

I may have to break down and show up at a Milton athletic event to give you a little photographic competition! :D I know I'll be there after the first of the year when the soccer and lacrosse seasons crank up.

I don't mind at all. I'll send you a PM as soon as I finish uploading a couple RAW images to my FTP server.

Kent, c'mon over... I'd be happy to show you around the new school and getting some pointers.

I agree. Volleyball is really hard to shoot.

I have some images from a College Volleyball game I shot on my page.
Let me know what you think. These shots were for an Athletic Company.
View them on the "Large or Original" setting for better detail.

    43421098Thanks,

I try hard to shoot what I feel would make me want to look back if I was the one viewing the images in a Catalog or Magazine.

But no matter what, Volleyball is the hardest sport I shoot. Usually all the Gyms are like caves, the one at Ga. Tech was no exception, it was horrible.

Did you use a flash, or was the gym that well lit?

I used Strobes, there were 4 Strobes, one in each corner of the Gym.

When I shoot for Commercial Clients I have to use Strobes to get the "Stop-Action" needed for use in publications and such. The Volleyball was shot at ISO 200 at f/5.6.
The NCAA will not allow on-camera flash during the games.
