It has been difficult to get much shooting done the last month. This is affecting quality. There are many issues with this particular image, but feel free to comment on any of it.

I think it is pretty nice. Maybe a tad too bright, try to bring that down some and maybe darken the rocks a little more as they are bright and take your eye from you very cute subject. Got to be a ballerina with those pointed toes.

Very nice. I do agree with Charles on darkening the rocks - especially the large rock in the upper right. Also maybe clone out the twig by her right foot. Nice expression and love the line created by her legs.

Very nice pose as mentioned above but yes those blown highlights take away from an otherwise nice portrait.

Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it. Not much I can do with the blown highlights on her legs and arm without making things look really unnatural. Hopefully the outdoor setting lends itself to the eye being able to accept that. Other than that, here is the second try:

Most of my training and effort goes in to thinking like a photojournalist. Therefore, doing any image modification is usually the last thing on my mind. I noticed the twig, but I forgot the rules are different for portrait photograph. They allow modification. Hurray. :)

It's true that unless you shoot RAW it's very difficult to regain lost highlights so there's not much in the way of correcting that in post that wouldn't look to obvious or that would take a lot of work to make it look natural. In a case like this I would meter in spot mode off of her face as I'm also a photojournalist type shooter when it comes to shooting my kids and grand kids. This is very helpful for impromptu shooting....
