I'm a Kidnapper... I take terrible pictures of people, then hold them for ransom.

Very nice work but not something I would care to do to a large number of my portraits though perhaps would be cool to try something similar on a few.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for stopping by Rey... I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
As for me... I'm having a hard time of NOT processing my images like this.
I draw or paint for squat but have always wanted to... with this... finally I can...
After 34 years...(wow... just realized I have been doing this a long time) but anyway...
I stumbled upon this concept a short while ago & it has just taken off...
What I like best about it is... I'm having fun again. ...and... I think they are PURTY...lol

A colleague of mine has developed his own processing software that is very much similar to what you've done here. Does this process involve a lot of work or have you dialed it in pretty well?

I would love to see what your colleague has developed... perhaps you can provide an introduction.
This is for you too Gary....
I'll address -time- 1st... The amount of time to create these images varies greatly... 5-10 minutes on
the kid... only because the vision of what I am going to do often doesn't hit me until I am actually doing it...
Once it hit me I was done. The Beach scene... probably 30+ minutes... I was tired..it was 3 AM... BUT...
I have also spent a day on an image... OCD to the max I tell ya..lol
*** but here the catch... I don't want my images to be perfect... & I think you will agree... they're Not...
Think of me as a sloppy Picasso... haha ...but seriously... most of the time I want them to be a mess...
I can ransom them off for more when they're ugly... lol
The cycle dude... that just came together... LR4 does a lot of the heavy lifting for me... I brushed the scene
dark then brushed out some of what I wanted. ... I just massaged the sliders... made a couple layers
& poop...out it came. I mean Pop...
As for the amount of work... and what's involved...
1 - 1st I take terrible pictures of people & I mean that in every sense... bad lighting, generally totally
candid, or as candid as can be. I really don't care what the scene is... It's really about whatever &
whenever a subject is in front of me. Of course I really pay attention to composition & lighting but
damn the torpedoes... full speed ahead...
Image 1 was in a parking lot... I mentioned to them they were missing some sand & margaritas. In
another version I lessened the opacity of the SAND so the asphalt has some texture... You can get a
feel for what I mean by looking between the two ladies elbow area... just adds a better feel...
My weapons of choice are my super-wide - 17-40 L & my 15mm canon fisheye but that's not all I use...
they are just my favs... I'm going for extreme.
2 - i run it through LR4 to purtty it up a bit.
3 - some images start with HDR but certainly not all - nor is HDR a requisite.
4 - lots of layers... picking & choosing what I want from each... also changing the opacity of layers
5 - software... LucisArt, NIK, Topaz, OneOne Perfect Effects... I use them all
The kid was easy... again I start with a terrible picture and make it worse....lol ...then i drop a new
layer for a vignette and do a little painting. That little guy wanted nothing to do with me or his dad
but me being the affable guy that I am, "begged him to please not make me take his picture... please
Oh Please don't make me... He won... and thats taken with my 15mm fisheyeBall:)
This is how I see the world... but ya know...I never got it when talking to artists who I used to sell
for when they would say to me... "I just see it" ...but now I get it... and often as I am taking or
getting ready to the image I just see it.
I hope this provides a little insight Gary... Rey... let me know about your friend...would you?
p.s. hope this makes sense I haven't slept much in days...
thanks

His name is Kevin Kidder and we met a Smug event in Riverside, Ca some time ago.
Check out his Las Vegas, Architecture, Automotive or Riverside albums for prime examples of what he does here:

I was quite fascinated when I first saw his work and asked what he used to process them at which point he explained to me that he developed his own software.
I can't wait to "bump" into him again as I have many more questions to ask.....
