My daughter and her Ole Miss Rebel teammates came to Atlanta over the weekend to play in the Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League Tournament. Here are a couple of the shots I got from the quarter-finals against Georgia Tech.

Sorry - I have ZERO experience with lacrosse but here's my take for what it's worth!
I think you really had your work cut out with the light conditions - bright sunlight areas and dark shadows.
#1 suffers the most with shadow - it sucks the contrast out of the image. With better light this would have been a real winner. Shot low, good separation of players, ball in mid air, goalies net/stick all make for a well balanced composition.
I like the low POV - I really feel close to the action - in fact quite nervous in #2 and #3!! You are a brave tog!
Love the expression of the girl in #2. The sliver of goal net on the left, the chasing player and subjects posture all come together to set the context.
#3 had the potential for the best action shot but ... the ball is "lost" behind the net. Love the shooter's position - good catch.

As I said, feel free to completely ignore anything I might say!!!
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.

    Ace,

Thank you for looking and thanks for the comments...I have to agree with almost everything you said...especially the lighting conditions. I am not sure what to do in this instance, but that is where the action was...at the other end of the field I was looking right into the morning sun. What I don't agree with is the "brave tog"...I have been shooting my daughter's lacrosse games for quite a while...I have never had any fear behind the net...most shots are on the ground by the time they reach the goal line and I have scooped up many with a bare hand. If this was boys lacrosse it would be a totally different story...I DO NOT go behind the net at a boys game.

    Thanks again for looking.

Yeah - sometimes you have to just "suck it up" with lighting at some sports grounds. Shot one on the weekend. Shoot to the left? ... great! Nice colour. Shoot to the right? ... into the sun and all the players are just washed out muddy "mush". Wasn't until the afternoon (when the sun moved to come from over my shoulder) that I felt I was able to get decent shots.
Name of the game!! (That and darn officials, water boys etc picking the precise time you want to press the shutter to wander directly in front of you!!! Grrrrrr!!!)
PS I still don't believe you ... it LOOKS a dangerous spot to exist!!!

    Very nice!!

My daughter plays on a field with similar light issues, not much you can do, but I still like what you've gotten.

I agree with you about behind the goal in women's lax. Not really that dangerous, but you do need to stay alert. Especially "togs" who haven't been around lacrosse much. They will probably not be able to anticipate when to "take cover."

Recently has been some discussion on the board about location, and whether to stand behind, near the goal. THe problem is really the goal getting in the way. On the second shot, everything lines up well, but the shooter keeps moving left during her shot and the ball ends up somewhat obscured in the third. Getting the shooter, that ball, the goalie and the goal all in a shot reallly takes a lot of luck since the shooter can approach from any direction...
    Regards

    Will

Nice shots from the SWLL tournament. thumb.gif

Good to see that you're staying in practice with football season just around the corner! I see that we have seven home games down on the Flats this year, including the mighty Blue Hose from Presbyterian.
