LR4 Plugin Keyword Question

Please tell me something and forgive me if this has been covered.
I know that there is, or was, an issue synching keywords from LR into Smugmug, but it seems that keywords transfer happily now.
The question I have is, that if you change keywords in Smugmug, will they synch back to Lightroom as I can't seem to get them to?
I uploaded a test batch of images and then changed some keywords in SM and they are not appearing in LR4. If I delete all the keywords from SM, how do I get them back in from LR? With the images all on SM and all keywords deleted from SM, if I re-synch the same shots from LR, the keywords never make it back to SM.
Is this part of the Adobe issue, or is it me?

If you'd like content from Lightroom republished to SmugMug, you would need to mark the photos in question for republishing. That should replace the existing photo on SmugMug and also update caption/keywords on SmugMug.

I had fairly minimal tags in LR, preferring to put them into shots directly on SM. This was before the plugin came out.
Now that I have all my images keyworded on SM (I have up to 50 keywords per image) and have started using the plugin, I don't want to have to either manually enter them in LR, or in SM.
Is there a workaround for this or is there a fix planned?
Lightroom is the master of the metadata. If you republish you will replace the title/caption/keywords on SmugMug - any changes on SmugMug will be overwritten (I've just spent time confirming this).
You need to avoid re-publishing the images to protect the keywords on SmugMug. I would suggest that you select the images and (in Library grid view) select them and then from a right-click (ctrl-click on a Mac) and select "Mark as Up-To-Date".
Do you know about keyword painting in Lightroom?

That's one way of quickly applying keywords in a grid view.
There isn't an easy solution.
