Zenfolio's Favorites

There is a feature in Zenfolio I really like and am wondering if it can be done in Smugmug.
Zenfolio has a way to allow viewers to easily click on photos they like and "Add to Favorites'. Once they have selected a bunch of Fav photos, they can then Download the selected photos in a zip file. Can this be done in Smugmug? If so, how?! I have a Pro Smugmug account.

We don't have an option for your customers to download all of their favorites, but once they have selected their favorites, you can request the zip file for them, using the Download All link in your Gallery Tools, and send them the link. They're good for two weeks, and can be shared.

This page here tells you about it: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93331

If that's a feature you would really like to have, please feel free to post your wants and wishes here: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks Lindy.
But that is useless... Viewers should be able to select what they want to download. Not me.
I will make a feature request. But then, I don't see what good that does.. the multiple levels request has been there for years, and it has never materialized.

WS, it's not useless. With our favorites feature, customers / visitors pick their favorites. They're in a smart gallery just for them. They have selected them, not you. You have the power to generate the zip file and send to them.

Some things take more time than others, but this one I can promise you is not being ignored. Thanks for your patience. Oh and by the way, we love the feedback forum, it is a great way for us to find out what is so very important to customers. And we've been listening and implementing customer requests and ideas for 10 years :D

    Thanks again Andy.
I may be missing something regarding the Fav feature. How do visitors pick? and how do I know what they pick?
I am just saying Zenfolio's implementation is very user friendly. Sorry that sometimes I sound a little 'bitter'. I have 700GB with Smugmug and I feel like I am completely locked into your service, whether I like it or not. Mo 'migration service' will really get me out of Smugmug!
And yes I do like MOST of what I get, but even you have to admit, e.g., the multiple levels feature request has been in discussion for YEARS. And in the beginning, all Smugmug did was to defend your implementation and questioned back the users why they want to have more than 3 levels?! Frankly, the simple answer is that it should be up to us to decide.

All I can tell you is a) it's not simple and b) we're going to let you decide. I know it's been a long-asked request. And it will come, I can promise you that.

Oh Events Favs... yes I tried using that. I have maxed out.... one of my viewers selected over 1000 favs... maxed out... (why is there a limit?)
Also there seems to be a max number of galleries for an event as well. I can't add any more...

Your use case for the event marketing feature seems unusual and I've not heard of another person maxing out the favorite limit before. Viewers can only select up to 1000 photos as our collect photos feature doesn't support anymore. If you have that many galleries and viewers would like to select such a big amount of favorite photos, I can only suggest that you split up your event into multiple smaller events.

Maybe you could add your suggestion for extending the favorite limit to our feedback pages?

Whether my use of the Events is usual or not, Smugmug does not provide another easy way for viewers to select photos and download the selected photos as a zip file. So I am forced to use Events the way I do, but then there is a limit of 1000 fav... honestly why 1000? It seems completely artificial and arbitrary to me. 1001 is too many, 1000 is not?

I appreciate your suggestion. I really do, but it just won't work. As my viewers are all 'grandparents'. A simpler implementation like Zenfolio's Fav is all I need and will work just fine.

As I've shared with a number of other Smugmuggers (just last week in your offices), it's really too bad that favorites only applies to Events. The use of events doesn't fit into the way I organize my site at all and because of that, my viewers can't use favorites. In my opinion, it was a mistake in the design to not have just allowed any viewer to use favorites on any gallery. Why should it only be limited to events? Events are just one additional way of organizing galleries - it's not like they are the only place in the site that favorites would ever be useful. Favorites should have been a generic view selection mechanism that applies everywhere on the site. My viewers don't get to use favorites at all.

I econd that. While I see the point of Events, it is a not a universal solution. Something simple (like cookie based) would have been far easier to understand, use, and implement and will be far more universal in its application.

I hope Smugmug will implement something similar to Zenfolio's Fav function.

I like Smugmug a lot, and love the support here, but I really wonder why some of the decisions are made throughout the years... as if they had one too many meetings and ended up with a most non intuitive solution to a simple problem.

I also agree with this. I shoot a lot of senior portraits and setting up an event is not a very clean way to do things for each senior I shoot.

Is this still the case? I can't believe there is no simple way to pick favorites from a Business account gallery, and no way whatsoever to easily pick favorites at any other account level!
    Really???
