Millipedes are a common class of arthropod with over 10,000 named species. Estimates suggest this is only a fraction of the total number of millipede species. This is one. They appear to quite slow moving as you watch them, until you try to get them in front of the lens for long enough to be in focus at the head end, when they appear quite the opposite - rather fast!

This on is on the rockery amongst the moss on the stones, but it wouldn't play ball - I had to keep poking my finger into its face to try and get it to go in the right direction!
