Dunno what happened, but several of my images showed
up in the "Liz, Don't Look" thread and then disappeared.
Here's a re-post for Liz and other baseball moms and
grandparents:

Nikolai, my eldest grandchild, is playing his first year in
Rookie Babe Ruth baseball. He plays first base. In this
series, a sharp hopper to first caught him in the face.
You can see how far the ball - lower right - bounce off
of him.

The coaches all rushed over. His parents and grandparents
remained in the stands but breaths were held.

A minute or so with an ice pack, and he's back with a "Keep
me in the game, Coach" attitude.

Turned out to be just a welt under the eye that never
became a black eye.

The other thread - "Liz, you can look" - has a couple of photos
that don't scare parents.

I see why Juano appreciated that first shot--nice job getting the ball in the same shot.
I really like these Tony--You are doing a fine job with the fence around you.
I think my favorite is the shot of all the coaches running up to him to see if he's ok. Glad no major damage was done.
I'm not a nervous mom nor weak of stomach. I know they get hurt and I know my son will likely get hurt again playing baseball, but when his permanent teeth have to be wired together it gives me pause.
    Baseball is a tough sport!

Shame about the near black eye--they really enjoy that little "badge" and it makes for cute photos later, as long as it's not real damage.

Trust me...At that age, black eyes are cool....He will milk it for all its worth once he finds out how valuable it is. :)

Thanks. I found a way to shoot the batter in the box.
My Nikon has no live view, but if I stand on my tip-toes,
hold the camera high and upside-side down over the fence,
I can see through the view finder.

First base shots are done from the top tier of the stands
    with my 55/200 lens.

Youngest grandson plays "pitcher". The actual pitch is
from a spring-loaded machine in this first-year league, so the
pitcher position is a fielder for the through-the-middle hits.
I shoot that position through a gap between the dugout
    and the fence.

    Photographers have to be innovative!

The comment about boys being proud of their battle
    wounds is right on.

When my son played Little League, I wasn't into photography,
so all we have is the paid-for team shots. This time around
we'll have hundreds, and a few may be good.

After baseball, the boys have already been signed up for
    Pop Warner football.
