I love the idea... but I agree... that backlighting is distracting.

Thanks everyone for your comments... So what do you guys think about adding the film strip? It was obviously a lot more work for me but I, myself, tend to like to like it as I think it gives a bit more of a spoof movie poster feel to it. Would you guys agree, or should I get rid of it? Thanks!
The filmstrip is an interesting addition. Personally, I think the size of the images in the filmstrip are pretty small for viewing in this setting. Even going to your linked gallery, they're still hard to make out.
On the other hand, it's clear what the intent is and adding the element to the poster may be more important for you than the actual image content in the thumbs. Don't think you can go wrong either way.
