This evening my son and I spent a couple of hours playing with his K'nex toys. He loves to play with these and I tried to capture the way he gets engrossed in it.... Comments welcomed.

I love the series. The first is best for the competition IMHO. I like the composition but the best is the way it captures not only your son's concentration but also an innocent sense of excitement and enthusiasm that we seem to lose as we get older.

I like the first one. The lighting and composition are very nice. The concentration on his face really makes the picture. I just wish there was some way to make this shot a little tighter to really draw the viewer in.

My first thought: OH @#*&. So I would guess you could say that I am drawn in. I would not crop it any tighter or change it in any way.

I think it is too good as it is. I don't know how it could get better, but it could get worse, so I would leave it. And that is from the "good" me, not the jealous one.

Really nice set, while I agree with the rest No.1 is very good and the expression really makes the shot, I think I prefer No.2 for the overall composition, maybe chopping that left side a tad just to bring your sons hand in tight with the edge of the drawers behind. ne_nau.gif not sure 100%. All nice shots. :D

I laughed when I saw these pics. They are great, but you and I must be on the same wave length thinking about this challenge. I went to the local museum to shoot an antique checkers display they have. Then I see your chess shot. They also had an amusement park science display that I took a few shots of. Then I see this post.

Look what he can build with those things. These were all automated and mesmerizing.

    Images deleted from Eric's thread.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I like #1 and #2 the best also. I like the perspective in the first one and the look in my son's face (thanks Virginia for noticing). I took Ginger's advice and didn't change anything on the first one except some judicious cloning and a tad of burning on the bottom left.

Darren, I agree with you that the left side is a bit distracting on #2. I tried cropping it before I posted it last night but just couldn't get it to look right. Instead I worked the lighting a bit. I really was trying to go for something more low-key and "warmer" and I took that opportunity to darken the left to make it less distracting. What do you think?

    Thanks again for the feedback!

Well...I have a third idea which I'm getting ready to post. Hopefully you weren't thinking of that one!

Maybe I'm just the wierd one out, but I like number 3 since you can see him reading... just something about the angle. They're all very good though!

The 5th picture is awesome, it acutally reminds me of an Amusement park.

Very warm pictures. I like the tone. The fifth one with the action blur is a nice touch.

Gosh Eric, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I just thought it was funny that we kept thinking along the same lines and taking pictures of similar subjects.

I've deleted my pictures from your thread so as to not create any more confusion.

    Sorry again,

Thanks Shima. I actually like the lighting on the third one the best. But I think the first one has a bit more umph for the challenge. Not sure it'll make a difference though...some great entries posted!
