I ordered a flash stand and the Cowboy studio NPT-04 Radio Trigger. I shoot with a Nikon d3100. I intended to order a Vivitar 383 flash, but I have to put a hold on that. For the mean time I have a Canon Speedlite 188a Laying around, would I be able to use this with my current set up until I get a Vivitar. I read that if the flash is under a certain voltage then it shouldn't matter.

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

    According to this site:

    http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html

... the Canon 188a has a safe trigger voltage.

It's always best to measure the trigger voltage yourself when dealing with old flashes, because manufacturers sometimes used different internal parts at different times in the manufacturing life cycle of the flash. That site also shows you how to do your own measurement.

I am not familiar with the Canon 188a so I cannot tell you whether the flash will even work on your Nikon body.
