These was taken in a chinese opera back stage quite sometime back shot in colour and recently picked some for conversion. Now I'm torn between colour and b/w.

Appreciate your views pse.

It is a creative choice. Since you asked for opinion... I prefer the color ones due to the stronger emotional effect. Particularly of the first one. With the toning you have in the conversion on that one, you lose the sense of what is happening on the upper cheek without the color.

Nice series. Did you get enough to put together a complete photo essay?

In general I agree with Ryan, though I think the green whatever-it-is in #2 breaks the mood some. Nice set either way.

This one is a no-brainer for me: the color versions win by a mile. Without the color, the scope and complexity of the make-up doesn't come through. Good work.thumb.gif

The color is totally awesome. I agree that the green clippy thing in #2 is a little distracting. But the colors on their faces is fantastic. With out it, the drama is kind of lost.

A vote for color for this set. Others have already noted the whys for such a vote. Good luck with your decision. Fine set of images thumb.gif

    My take

    A = Color
    B&C = B&W

    The entire series is excellent

It's an interesting comparison, and it's not something that occured to me before in BW v colour, but I notice something about the bright lamp in #2 and #3. In those shots, the lamp looks less bright and distracting in the BW version than the colour - probably because it blends in more. The colour versions of all the shots are probably the better as they express more warmth and emotion

Thanks to all. Very much appreciate your comments.

The general concensus indeed prefer colour. I'm doing my photo book at the moment. Point noted.

I just took a look at your site. You have some pretty amazing shots on there, and I think it proof of your ability that they were taken on a fairly modest camera. I have a G1. Is the GH1 basically a G1 with video?

    Hi Ron.

Thanks for dropping by. Hope you enjoy the journey.

I'm not familiar with G1. In fact I hardly use the video function of GH-1. And I love this camera. Its stealth and versatile for me to carry long distance without ever straining my shoulder. I use to travel with a grp of photog friends and most of them are using the big DSLR. At the end of the day, I was still fresh, got more pics cause i was able to walk more miles than them.

The GH-1 has been with me for close to 2.5 yrs and am looking forward to GH-3. Still has to see whats in store for me. Otherwise, I'll just stay put. Don't believe in changing camera for better pic.

    Cheers.

I'm just going to throw my two cents into this. As a doco series of the actor, then go B&W all the way. The colour distracts from the intensity and meticulousness of the artist during preparation.
