Kat at Knapp's Castle

After playing with the poppies on Mt. Figueroa (see my post in Go Figure) Kat and me headed off to a new location I just recently learned about: Knapp's Castle.

It's a ruins of the actual house that -sadly - burned down only a few weeks after it has been completed. Still the access is relatively easy and the view is absolutely breathtaking.

To our suprise the location was crowded like Yosemity on Memorial Day weekend (even though it was merely a was Friday night). However we managed to get a few shots without other people in the frame. But all the other people with cameras were having a field day shooting me shooting Kat. Luckily we both could concentrate on what we had to do and the onlookers didn't bother us much.

    Nikolia,

The silhouette images are very nicely done. I do however want to ask why you chose f20 and slow ( 1/20 to 1/50) shutter speed? Also did you use any filters?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Sam,
    thank you for commenting!

Now to your question... I actually had 3 very good reasons to shoot with those settings:
    1. Since the location is all about the view, I wanted both my model and the valley far below to be as much in focus as possible, hence deep DOF
    2. It is a windy place, and it was windy, and we have chosen the gown that react good to wind. The slow shutter speed (down to 1/8 in one case) allowed me to catch that wind blur (you can see the effect in more than one picture)
    3. I wanted to get some sun stars, and for that you have to close the aperture pretty tight.
    Hope that explains my reasoning.

NICE. I was thinking this was why you used those settings (DOF, Motion Blur, Sun Stars)

    Sam... you're such a rookie.
