Who does a prom shoot? (C&C please! ^_^)

Soooooo I work with kids at my church and one of my kids was like, "Hey, can you take prom pics for me?" and I obliged.

I felt awkward because when you shoot a wedding, you can tell the bride and groom to make out and it's accepted as a normal thing. When you tell a 17 year old and her boyfriend to start kissing, fathers get nervous. So I skipped the kissing. lol

Please, let me know what you think. :thumb

2. At a park down the road

3. Smile!

4. Classic "in front of the house" shot

5. Yes, I see the bar but I like the tones of this pic :)

6. "Whisper something in her ear..." (since we can't have kissing lol)

Well, how did I do? :D

EDIT: All of these were shot with a single SB600, off camera, bare inside ceiling bounce, umbrella'd outside above subject 45* camera right.

One, three and six are stellar.

I guess I'm getting old though. If a young man showed up to take my daughter out dressed in such a manner, the daughter wouldn't be going! :D I mean REALLY????

    #6 is fantastic!

And yes, someone should tell him that the girl went through a lot of trouble to look awesome. The least he could do was try even a little to look good. Those boots? Seriously?

Some of the lighting feels a little blown out on the subjects (just for my own taste I think), but your compositions are spot on! Really well done.

#3 is simply wonderful. I generally like the whole set. As far as the boy, any time a teenaged boy gets into pinstripes, he's made an effort. I've never understood the shirt hanging out thing though.

My pick is #6. I like the pose and processing. I would however clean up whatever that is over his shoulder and by his hand and in the space between them. Whatever is showing through looks a bit like a dirt smudge.

As for the boy, though I would have no doubt chased him away with a baseball bat, given the appearance of mom or older sister in #1 what with the piercings, tats, and dye job, I'd say he fits right in.

I would like to know what lens you used.
    6 is SUPER...
The reason I ask about your lens is your DOF... #1 & 4 ...
A little retouching would have been nice...
Great set Wally... Thanks for sharing

You have some really great ideas here and some very nice processing. When it comes to a formal pose I think you need to remember a few items. Weight on the rear leg, her eyes at his mouth level (when you can), never show the back of the hand to the camera.

I think my mind has been in the gutter lately because every time I read this thread title, it looks like it says "Who does a PORN shoot?"

I usually remember no bottoms of feet and weight on the back leg but she was taller than him and I'll keep in mind the back of the hand. Nifty. mwink.gif

Depends on the type of shirt as some are meant to be worn that way but I wasn't paying THAT much attention to his shirt lol. (i do pay that much attention to my own though!)

All of these were shot with a 24-70.

I want to push myself to be impressed. These has quickly become my "norm". Other people are still impressed with them and I know some fellow photogs will always find fault but I'd like to be impressed by my own pics too :P

I love #3! Lots of good stuff, but I just dont really dig #2. I think it would have worked a little better if there was a play in DOF here. Move one of them back and one of them forward kinda thing. Great stuff though and I enjoyed it. Looking these pictures I feel old. We didnt have guys who dressed like that at my school, but that could be because I am from BFE Iowa and all I had around was farmers
