This is a photo of Phantom Falls from North Table Mountain Ecological Preserve, near Chico, California. What a wonderful place! The waterfall is seasonal and was supposed to stop flowing by now, but with the late rains we got this year, many think it will continue to flow for about another month. Even so, it was feather thin when I saw it.

This place was just magical... the cliffs, the hills, the wildflowers, and, of course, the waterfalls. It was one of the coolest landscapes I've found California for a while. And best of all, they have no problem with letting you stay until sunset :)

Looks otherworldly! Very nicely composed and processed. I like the glow of the land at the top which kind of suggests that the land stretches on for miles to the horizon.

Absolutely gorgeous. I had no idea there was anything like this in Norcal. Is it possible to hike down into it?

Sure is! But we didn't have time. We might have had time if we had initially known where to go... there was a descent further away that we thought was the way to get down, and when we got there it was too late, and also looked harder than we thought. Only when we were returning (about the time of this photo) did we see two people go down the way you're supposed to go, which is what is pictured in this photo (the slope with the trees in the upper left). There is a cave behind the waterfall and also an abandoned gold mine shaft that you are free to explore (but I have not yet done so).
