Welcome to Round #142 of the Dgrin Mini-Challenges!
Your challenge topic: POWER (I don't think this has been done before and I'm hoping for a broad range of interpretations)
This challenge will run through Wednesday, May 23 at 7pm GMT (2 weeks). Be sure to check the guidelines following my sample shots below.
Your Judge: Alans Grin
chrisdg , thank you very much for hosting the previous challenge.
POWER will be defined here as any photograph that either illustrates Power in one of its many forms (from Nature to Nuclear, Politics to Pistons) or one of the hundreds of well-known expressions with the word Power in it - Power of Love, Power Chord (as in music or wiring!), Power of the people etc. As such, it may help your image if you can include a title with it.
I am hoping for a broad range of interpretations and my wife will be helping me judge, so I'm hoping for softter gentle shots as well as hard cutting shots of car engines etc.
Here are a few of my shots simply to illustrate diverse possibilities and styles -
Horse Power
Magical Power
Fire Power
Power Grid
Guidelines:
1. Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post. (With mini challenges, any photo you have taken is eligible, regardless of the date created.)
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
4. Give each image you enter a title.
5. Enjoy discussion with members about their images, don't let this just be an entry thread!
6. When quoting a post change the IMG urls to a 200x200 size picture so it is clear your post is feedback and not another entry. (see here for help)
7. Don't be hesitant, share'em and enter!
Mini-Challenge pointers:
1. Upon winning a mini-challenge round your first step is coming up with a new theme, and start a new thread using the same format as others have used.
2. Make sure to notify the admin of this http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=205082 thread to update the main thread links with your entry thread.
3. Feel free to watch the thread as it grows or wait to the end time and look at all the entries all at once.
4. After the time/date has passed, then officially close the thread with a single post notifying everyone of the fact.
5. After you're finished judging start a new thread (again use the prior formats) and post your Winner and runners-up, it is important to have runners up incase the winner does not show within the 72hr window.
6. PM the winner with this info above and let them know they have 72hrs.
7. After the 72hrs and the winner does not show up, notify the next runner-up and post a message on the Winner thread of the fact.
8. Remember, if you're the Winner, you run the show.
Good luck!

When I saw the theme I immediately thought of my image of a steam train. I'm sure that I have more that will work but I wanted to submit this one just to get the ball rolling.
Steam Power
More to come soon.

Here are two others that I have in my archives.

These where taken last year at the Houston airshow. I had just gotten my 2x extender for my 70-200 and broke it in good that day! I think I took right around 2,200 shots! This was one of those shots when 10 frames a second really came in handy! I titled it at the sound barrier because he was not allowed to actually break it. But he got right to the edge!
If anyone's interested the other shots from that day are here http://smu.gs/K2uW75

There are probably other ways, but I upload my images to my
SmugMug site in a non-public gallery reserved for just images
that I will link to in forums.
Then, go to SHARE and get a link for the first image. Use the
INSERT IMAGE icon (yellow box with mountain) and insert that
image in your post. Do the same thing for the next image(s).
Before you post, click PREVIEW POST to make sure you did it
right. Then, SUBMIT REPLY.
Your SmugMug site won't display the gallery to the viewers,
but you'll have the images there. Keep this gallery for future
submissions to forums.

these are not real competitive - too many unbelievable photos in this thread, but here are a few I took a couple years ago at the LeMans 24 hour race in france with my old olympus e500 dslr. wish i had my 7D back then, but hey, its an entry at least - my first time in this forum!
1. into the grandstands
2. through the dunlop tire

terrific instructions!! thank you very, very much!
These are some great photos, I love the topic. I have this one from last July 4th. Our local parade has a bunch of well preserved steam engines every year. They are great fun (for all that bring earplugs).

Just a reminder, there's only two days to go before competition closure - Wednesday, May 23 at 7pm GMT,
so if you've got shots to put in - now is the time.
Alan.
I think the links to you lovely swan shots may be broken but it could be me. Could someone else please confirm or not.
Thanks
Alan
I'm not seeing them either Alan. Tatiana, did you move them, change the setting on your gallery, or change the name of the gallery?
