As I waited on the rise of the Super Moon, this nice obscured sunset was happening behind me. Craggy Gardens area of the BlueRidge Parkway.

Gorgeous view and great light. Maybe a bit over processed as it appears that you have some haloing on the two foreground ridge lines on either side of the image.

    CanonFan,

Please don't take offense, but I need to disagree with the others here.

This image is a poor attempt at HDR. Over saturation, halos, lack of detail, colors seem off.

Is this something you want to print op at 40" X 60" and hang in your living room?

That said; Get mad at me if you want. Don't quit, do better next time.

Beautiful light combined with thin clouds/fog. Seems to be a bit of halo on the foreground ridges--do you know what causes that?

CanonFan, you already posted this shot in a different thread, so I've merged the two.

Topcat, you get that from using software to lighten dark shadowed areas that are bordered by lighter areas. HDR software will often do that if you're not careful, as will the Photoshop shadow tool, especially when combined with pushing the black-point or one of the other sliders. As Marc Meunch once pointed out in this forum, it's sloppy masking by the software. The best way to do this sort of thing is with manual blending, but it's a lot of work to do right.
