Nikon Batteries

Heard that Nikon have declared a battery recall for D50 and D70 and that it is for USA and parts of EC only. Has anyone any more info as to what the problem is? Or whether this is new news or old news?
Edited to add: just thought of looking on DP Review and predictably there is a slanging match just commenced and in progress on the subject. Gone midnight, so will go to bed now, and read up on it in the morning.

Hope that helps you find the information you were looking for. I got lucky, just got my D50 and mine isn't one of the batteries affected. Good luck to you too!:):
Stef thanks for that. Ours seem 'okay' too, so fingers crossed that the codes are right. It seems they have circulated this world wide and doing the right thing. Good to know they care, wouldn't want my camera to catch fire as one of the notifications warns of, even though the fault found was only four in a million.
If anyone is affected by this, DPR thread is worth a look, as it suggests how to do the return and not be left without a battery for longer than necessary, which is apparently not obvious on first glance.
