    Fly with wing problems ?

    Brian,
    That fly has just emerged from pupation and is in the process of pumping the wing veins full of heamolymph to extend them and then sclerotisation occurs.

    HiddenNZ - I realised it's wings hadn't expanded, But it was moving around at high speed and didn't seem to have a very swollen head they have when just emerged. I have seen many flies now which just had a problem with their wings and they never expanded and wondered if this was another one ?

    I don't see anything out of the ordinary with that fly the wings can be a fair way behind the rest of the body. I've collected a few to pin like that as a representation of wing troubles but they have always been fully formed within the day. In my experience individual variation can range from full sclerotisation of everything in a short period to legs and body sclerotising and then wings hours later. It is very rare for the wings to never form.
