I hope this is the correct place to post this thread. If not please move or delete. I have been shooting for some time now. I am in no way a semi-pro but have done some for pay and been some what succesful with my photography. That almost makes this hard to ask. I do not own a flash other than on camera fill flash. I really need some help in this area. I have no idea what alternative brand flash to buy for any of my gear. I dont want to step up to the cost of a SB 900 or even a SB 600 unless I could find a used one that was affordable.

My fear is buying a cheap one that will really limit me later once I learn how to use it. I dont mind spending $100-$150 on a flash currently. Any ideas or suggestions?

Current gear D300, D60, D70 and some older film cameras that I dont need a flash for.

Thanks,:deal

While this won't be of much help, I have heard quite a few people talk about this flash and really like it for it's price range. I believe there is a newer one with a display on it and such. I have no personal experience with this flash yet, but it is on my "maybe buy" list in the near future. It is a manual only flash, but unless you spring for one of the nicer ones, you'll be running manual anyways. Worth checking out though I say!

Get a used SB600. I have gotten more than one in the $160 range which is darned close to your $150, eh?
    You will not be disappointed!

My first flash was a ; http://www.lumopro.com/product.php?id=25; Manual flash, no ttl. I think it helped not having all the wizmo's at first and just figuring out the balancing act of flash.
