How to protect my Videos from being stolen off Smugmug?

I'm sure there's a way to do it, but couldn't find it searching here. So how can it be done?

If by "steal" you mean download, and if the gallery owner allows it, you'll find a 'save movie' link at the top while the video is playing in lightbox. You can enable that with setting 'largest size' to original and 'protected' to no.
Note if you price video downloads, the save option shouldn't show.

I changed the title and deleted some posts.

We do not encourage theft of material from SmugMug. I will delete any further posts of that kind.

In order to prevent the theft of video from SmugMug, you should consider only posting videos of small resolution and limited bandwidth and with an embedded watermark. That will work well for any public gallery.

To sell videos from SmugMug I suggest using non-public galleries and visible by invitation only. Then you have some control over your viewing audience.

I posted here after carefully considering the other options--support wasn't going to tell me--only other pros who have experience with this type of theft would know. I understand that this type of information doesn't need to be public, but deleting posts didn't help pro who could use the info to combat theft.

This is the first time I've seen censorship here on dgrin. I'm just going to go to a larger photography site and ask the same question. I'm sure there I can get the answers I need without this type of drama.

Theft is not a trivial matter, and we will not condone discussions promoting theft. Your post heading and discussion was in violation of our site's policies.

I changed the heading and deleted the posts rather than banning you for a discussion relating to illegal activities, i.e. theft of intellectual material.

    Was that a mistake?

SamirD is a long time very valuable contributor here. I think you are making a mistake here, but not the one you think.

I was not aware that a post asking for Smugmug support was indeed violating dgrin's policies. This is an interesting setup to say the least as it keeps some sensitive topics like this from being brought up.

Thank you for being kind in your action. Didn't help me, but didn't hurt me either.

I agree that this topic was warranted, but it's not my house so I don't make the rules. The information that I was gathering on the topic was going to benefit all pros who face the possibility of video theft. I didn't see this topic as any different than talking about all the ways images can be lifted. ne_nau.gif

I wasn't talking about the topic itself.

Are you saying that your posts contained no worse than descriptions of activities like screen capture and the like for still photos. eek7.gif

My posts didn't contain this, but I think some replies did. And this information is valuable for those of us that are looking to lock everything down beyond SM's protection methods.
