Can I suggest going with your own site rather than blogger? I just have a problem with putting effort (images, words) into a site that you can not 'take with you'. If you decide to do more with this blog someday, will you still want the blogger header? What if Google changes their terms of use?
A Wordpress site is very easy to set up out of the box and incredibly easy to customize with plugins.
Just a thought as you start off in the blogging world.

If your concern is the blogger header it can easily be removed. Take a look at my blog - it's also on blogger.
