Hi Everyone,

Got a question for ya'll. My daughter will be flying to Australia and is looking for recomendations for a backpack that can hold her DSLR and flash, along with a few other items, such as change of clothes and lunch that will meet airport carry on regulations. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated since this will be her first time flying.

Thanks, Milkmaid

    Backpack for travel
My wife and I have traveled quite a bit and we always use standard backpacks to carry our camera gear and jackets, etc. I have found that a 3 liter size works for us. This size has fit in every airplane we have flown on (except one Russian built plane with briefcase sized overheads).

We have been using Lowe Alpine but any pack that fits your daughter should work out well. We wrap our cameras in our extra clothes. So, I recommend you look for a pack that is comfortable which can hold the stuff she plans to carry.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks, this does help. I found a very good site with Lowe backpacks and we found some that have a day pack that was detachable from the main backpack that looked like it might be just what she needs.

Glad I could help. I just noticed that I wrote we use a 3 liter pack, that should be 30 liter. A day pack is a good size for air travel.

my experience so far has been that I have had to gate check my cams on several occasions and i would not feel the lest bit comfortable doing that with my cams wrapped in my clothing...personally i would go for an actual camera pack or sling bag... but that is just me and i do not want to have to convince my insurance agent that my gear was properly protected by being wrappewd in clothers in a normal backpack... ... ... the chances of something happening are slim ... ... but................................

    Good Luck.

Please look at options from Think Tank. Many professional shooters swear by their bags. I have several and frankly won't buy anyone else's bags. They make several models tailor made for this purpose.

I am really liking my ape case backpack. I have the apc1900 and it has my t2i gripped with 70-200L 2.8 attached and 3 other lenses with room for all my other "stuff" like filters, remote shutter release, etc...
