These guys are some of the magnificent wolves that my wife and I get to work with when we volunteer at the Wolf Conservation Center in New York. We never get tired of seeing them.

John, if you could prevail on some of your amazing human subjects to pose with your four-legged models, you'd REALLY have something going!!! I love these shots. Wolves, for me, are as near to a religious icon as exists.

    Wow, thanks everyone.
The volunteer work my wife and I do with the wolves rewards us wayyy more than anything we do for them.

Icebear, nice idea but NOBODY cozies up to these guys. Beautiful as they are, they are still wild animals. A few are socialized but none are " tame". By the way, the only red wolves existing in the wild are pretty close to you on the outerbanks of N. Carolina.

LOVE wolves. Thanks for sharing these, and yes #3 is a classic capture.

(Anyone else have a well-nigh irresistible urge to caption wildlife shots? I can't help myself...)

If I saw a red wolf in the wild, how'd I tell it from a coyote?

edit: Oh, maybe the coyote would have a poodle in its jaws??

Hi Ice, sorry I missed this.

Unfortunately (or at my age fortunately) most of my bi-pedal models are actually pretty tame. I should probably call my galleries "Girls Gone Mild".rolleyes1.gif

It can be tough to tell a red wolf in the wild. A coyote will be about 2/3 the size of an adult red. Coyotes will be 25-40 lbs while a red will be in the 40-60 lb. range. Actuallt, the best way to tell is if you see it, it's probably not a red wolf. They are incredibly shy and elusive even in our enclosures so the way we see them most is by webcam.

Musetek, thanks. Glad you appreciate these guys.

    John,

You have broad lit #3 and with the butt 1st, it is not a flattering angle. The position of the paws are awkward and you should try to get more of smile or go with serious look..there is sort of 1/2 smile going on that is not workign here.

Qarik, you know I like your C&C but this time I have to ask if you're serious??headscratch.gif

Broad light/short light certainly works in the studio or even outdoors where I can move a model around but this wolf wasn't "posing". Only Atka does that. With these guys (especially with the very elusive Mexicans and the Reds) you take what you can get. Certainly I've gotten a ton of blurs or other frames that just weren't any good but we're gonna have to disagree on this one my friend.mwink.gif

Such marvellous animals and I envy your wonderful opportunity to photograph them up close at the Wolf Conservation Center, excellent work John, I particularly like image #5 with both subjects caught in howling pose. Keep up the goofed work!
