Solar Eclipse at Sunset

I spent the day today out at the local lake with the family. I stayed late to photograph the 90% solar eclipse that happened later. I shot a huge amount of photos using a 9 stop ND filter and will soon turn them into a movie file. It was great as I could see the sun spots during the eclipse using just my Tair 3 300mm lens and that ND filter.

Later, during the end of the eclipse, I took off the filters and shot some solar eclipse sunsets.

Here is one of them.

Very nice! The first one especially. I went out and tried but didn't come close. :cry

What type of filter did you use that allowed you to get the yellow color? All i had was 6 stop ND.

    Thanks everyone!

Sam, I used a Hitec 2.7 ND Filter (9 stop I believe). There was a definite color cast, but I just fixed it in post to look like the many solar photos I've seen taken from solar scopes.

The landscape shot was very difficult to capture well. I used no filters. I had to fully stop down the aperture, and still had to use 1/2000 sec. at 100 ISO to not blow out the sun too much, which left not much detail in the foreground. I like the effect though.

If you look close, you can actually see the moons outline all the way around. I may try redoing the processing on this or another image to make that a little more prominent.

Thanks! I think I'm going to clean up the full size image a little and get it printed to aluminum for a wall hanging.

Good stuff! I wished I had access to some foreground like that.
