HAHA. That's exactly what I think he is thinking. It's funny how emotive a dogs face can be.

Meatball is the only one that will sit still and not try to lick the lens so he gets stuck with model duty for this kind of stuff. BTW, don't you love the snot on his nose in #2?

Don't ya just love what a wide will do in cases like this iloveyou.gif Kinda wonderful really in my humble estimation. Shots 2 & 3 are a hoot but 2 is the one for me :D

Very nice sharp for just long enough at f2.8. Radical Bokeh especially seen in image 1 top right. Cool.

Loved the tight composition and very shallow DOF on the shots. Are you still using your D700 or you upgraded to a D800 now? The quality of the camera, the lens, and the artistic eye of the shooter really shows up on these images! thumb.gifthumbthumb.gifthumbthumb.gifclap.gifclapclap.gifbarb

Still shooting the D700. Funny story about the D800. So a couple days after it was released, my wife mentioned something about seeing an announcement about the "New D800". I was paying much attention to the situation and I responded with a few reasons why it doesn't make sense for me to upgrade to it. She replies by saying that she thought I'd want to upgrade which is basically like giving me the green light to go out and buy it. DOH! I tried to back pedal a bit and explain why it may make sense but she saw right through me.

Long story short, not upgrading any time soon.

Terrific shots, hard to choose a favorite. He is a great model, even if he doesn't like it! :D

Great shots! Would you mind summarizing your reasons for going with the 17-35 instead of the 14-24. For some reason in my mind, the 14-24 is what I think of first when I think wide angle. The bulbous front element maybe?
    Camera: Nikon D4
    Lenses: Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR II | Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 | Nikon 50mm f/1.4

Harry B, mod on the wildlife and documentary forum helped me decide. You're not going to believe this but he saw my thread asking for recommendations for a wide angle for my D700. He gave me his Nikon 17-35mm. All I had to do was pay for shipping. It was sitting around with a broken aperture lever. He since bought the 14-24 and had no need for it. Of course, I jumped on the offer. I got it back from the repair shop yesterday. I feel too guilty to post how much the repair cost. One day, I will make it up to Harry. I am forever grateful to him. I can now afford to buy the last lens on my wish list... a 105 macro.

I've never shot the 14-24 so I can really compare 17-35 to it but I can tell you that I am hugely impressed with this lens. The focal range is awesome. On the short end, it's plenty wide on a FF body. On the long end, I can probably do some creative portrait work with it.

Its really freaking sharp too. Probably the sharpest lens I've ever owned or shot with and I have all pro Nikon lenses. When I had my D300, I owned a Tokina 11-16mm that I thought was sharp. The 17-35 is much sharper.

One thing I was quite surprised by and I'm loving is the minimum focus distance of this lens. You can literally get within an inch of the glass and it will focus. Really cool for a wide angle because you can get your subject super close to really use the wide angle at it's creative best.

I'm hoping to go shoot some landscape this weekend with it. We'll see how it does but I don't expect to be disappointed based on what I've seen so far.
