what lens and body are you using? So these kinds of candid where its just a head/shourlders..you HAVE to nail focus on the eyes. That means going single focus point and putting that focus point over an eye. It's a pain to do this all the time but that is the little thing that will often make a shot. I ask about your eqiupment to see if you are limited by HW or by technique.

Thanks for your comments, all done using 5DMKii + 70-200F2.8. I got this combo last month (my first full frame :) ) and so far learning my ropes on how to use it properly before I shoot my next assignment. This were all taken this weekend. Few of our friends were visiting us and kids playing in backyard. Good opportunity to have fun and practice. Everything shot right around 1:00PM in bright sun. I wanted to get more candid feel so most of it is shot at 200mm and there is nothing else used in this shots apart from camera + lens. No flash, No reflector nothing. Lot of shadows/blown highlights you see are because of it. It was good learning experience for me. Images #2&#3 are shot indoor but rest all are outdoor.

These are all great. But quarik is right on the money. Shooting wide open with any lens it is a good rule to put focus points right on the closer eye.
