Competition is getting more evenly matched - each game is a battle. The girls had another great season.

I see images too, and they look good!

I'll wager that this was shot early-mid morning, or mid-late afternoon. The contrasts are sharp, and sometimes the player's face is lost in shadow. One trick I use to smooth out these hard contrasts is to push the fill light in LR3, often accompanied by a slight reduction in exposure. This will give some more detail to the shadows. If the shot gets a little flat as a result, you can push some contrast at the high end, but only sparingly.

Thanks for your suggestion. I shoot with Olympus so the mid-luminance curves aren't very forgiving. The games are late afternoon and I try to shoot perpendicular to the sun angle if the action isn't with the sun. Also, the sensor gets pegged pretty easily with highlights so its a weird balance of holding onto highlights while trying to create a manageable mid-tones that can be salvaged.

Yea - I finally read the "new" way to post. I've been shooting so much over the past 1.5 years I haven't put much up recently.
