sun rise over the sand dunes c+c please

got up at 5 am this morning to head the hours drive north to the sand dunes on the north of fuerteventura were i live to get some pictures of the sun rise here is 1 of my favourites would love your opinions on it as well please guysDSC0075tonemapped-L.jpg

    Your early visit to the dunes got you strong contrast and good color. I think the first image is the strongest. The footprints at the bottom distract from the power. I'd keep the top portion in a horizontal format. The second image is less powerful. The bright sky patch pulls the viewer away from the mountain. If you want the emphasize the mountain you could keep the central half to 2/3 of the image to enlarge the mountain and remove the distracting sky patch.

    Winter was good for sleeping in later for sunrise.

    Imagine the first one a horizontal with the bottom half cut off. The bottom adds nothing to the image.

    I like them both, but I am partial to the first image. I think that cropping the first image to a horizontal would be a mistake. All that sand tells a story and gives the image a sense of place.
