H, I'm no expert (well, I am, at eating birds...) but I think the limpkin shots are a touch too warm. Nothing that's not easily fixed.

    Nice work!

I like the warm colors on the limpkin. I would guess that is for camouflage.

    Are those colors true, Harry?

I don't think that I have a limpkin shot, don't know, so many of those birds look similar to me, then I work one up and find out that it is an oyster catcher. I just thought the beak was a neat color.

that other bird, the one mentioned, I don't know what it is. I could look it up, but since I can't find .............well, heck, I don't have a camera! I forget that. Maybe I could solve this "where the birds are" situation by the time the camera returns.

I like that fog shot of Trish's from the AM, so much, darn I am jealous. I think our fog, such as it is, is over for the year. Nothing but clear skys from now on.........

    Hey Andy,

I thought they were a tad warm when I first opened them up on my screen too. I broke out my bird book and the limpkin colors were pretty much spot on with the book's. I think it was more the bright light that they were in.

Thanks Steve and I'll be glad to provide some limpkin info from my "Birds of Floida" book. The limpkin gets its name from its limping gait. No other marsh bird looks like it with its chocolate plumage washed with a green metallic sheen and sprinkled with white streaks. It has a loud wailing scream and its cry was recorded as one of the "jungle sounds" for the early tarzan movies. Its favorite food is the large apple snail. Its body length is 26-28 inches and it has a 42 inch wingspan. Its main hangout is Florida and occasionally it will be spotted in southern Georgia and Maryland. It was nearly hunted to extinction in the early 1900s.

Good shots. I too think the photo is too yellow. If you can't tell by the bird (and I have no idea what they look like) -- you can tell by the neon colored grass.

Thanks Ginger. The colors are true although they are appearing to be a tad brighter here than those on my PC. I don't think you have a limpkin shot mainly because they don't get up your way.

You know with this global warming thing, I am wondering about the affect on the birds habitats.

I wouldn't be surprised it birds start appearing at least one state up, and that is just the beginning.

ginger (not a real scientist here, just an hypothesis for you all to check out. Everyone who sees a bird that is said to be seen only in states lower than yours can report. I have: then I lost my Carolina bird book, bought one for the whole east coast as I was having to have birds IDd here that were not supposed to be here.)

Oh, and uh, this warm/cold color thing, well, isn't it somewhat time dependent in real life. Then it is up to the artist to decide the presentation. Harry, did you shoot those limpkins close to sweet light, maybe not "in" sweet light, but even close to it?

They were shot right before sunset and the lighting was bright and behind my shoulder really lighting up the limpkins very well.
