R1 vs canon 24-105 lens

i opted not to get the 24-105 and instead i got the Sony R1. I figured a new cam might be fun and a little more useful than just a lens. I was hoping that the quality of the R1 would produce nice images.... im still learning this cam but wanted some feedback as to quality of image and how would have it comapred if i used my 20D with the 24-105... maybe i shouldnt even be making this type of comparison but it is why i chose the R1 instead of the lens...

The detail in the sweater on the original looks very nice to me. :

It's a 1.1 MB original, so my guess would be it's not an out-of-camera O. But I like the detailed and crips appearance on the larger image.
