Is my lens broken?

The other day, I tried taking a picture of the moon with my 70-200. I dialed the focus all the way towards infinity... and the moon was OOF. The AF turned it back slightly and the moon came back into focus. Is it supposed to focus past infinity? Or is my focus botched?

I have an AF microadjust set at 4 (varies from the short end to the long end) and it takes perfectly sharp pictures within its focus range... I'm just a bit unnerved by it focusing past the moon.

Many lenses will indeed manually focus beyond infinity. Part of the reason for this is to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of the lens in different ambient temperatures. I doubt if there is anything wrong with the lens.
