Alabama Country Road

Actually it is a road in the Mountain Longleaf National Wildlife Refuge which is in the Southern Appalachian Mountain Range between Atlanta, GA & Birmingham, AL. The refuge is only about 10 miles from my home and it was nice to get out and see some fall colors in my area. It sure was strange being out looking at fall colors near mid-November in 83º weather. The refuge was established in 2003 for the protection and management of the last remaining old growth stands and the best remaining Longleaf Pine forests in the southeastern US. The 9000-acres for the mountain refuge came from the now closed Fort McClellan military training area which is located in Calhoun County, Alabama.

As always your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Northeast Alabama is stunning in the fall. Beautiful picture - the fall colors are gorgeous. I went up to Jackson County last month but everything was still green! I've gotta get up there soon!

Wow that is pretty! Wish it was as pretty in Birmingham as it is there! My neighbor has one pretty tree I have been admiring and I did find some pretty colors at the gardens.

Great color!clap.gif Thanks. The trees in our area (Olympic Peninsula NW Washington) had great color but heavy wind and rain did not allow for an extended viewing.

Nothing like a winding gravel road in the forest in the autumn. Lovely. That is the shot I had hoped to get in Parke County this fall and did not achieve. Nicely done!! I'm jealous :):

Luckily for us little wind, but the colors would have been better if we had received a little more rain around August and September and an early freeze around the beginning of October. We still haven't had the freeze yet in this area.

Path, I just went out and spent the day driving roads through the Talladega National Forest and the wildlife refuge and got lucky in a couple of places with the colors and scene. The colors were really nice throughout, but a bad haze dulled everything too much for some nice sweeping landscapes so I had to be satisfied with smaller scenes.

    Really nice, Dixie!

I have seen more color than usual here this year. Maybe I just have been out more.

That must have been a nice drive! Nice photo, very nice!

Thanks Ginger. We've had less color than usual, but there are patches of good color. I just had to get out and look for it.

Did you manage to get any photos of the old bridge being demolished? I bet it coming down in sections would make some nice photos. Do they have a schedule when different portions of it are being blown up? If they do, I wonder if we could get on the Yorktown or somewhere to get photos of it.? I would make a special trip over just to get some shots of that.

Beautiful colors in this photograph. There seems, to me at least, to be some mystery as to where this road leads to. I like that concept!
