Flight Control

On my way back home after shooting at a local marsh, I noticed hundreds of geese hunkered down in a harvested corn field. The wind was out of the west at a blustery 25-30 mph. All of the geese sat with their heads facing the wind. When I got out of the car to take a shot naturally they wanted to depart. They had a hard time getting up. The leader faced into the wind and just glided perfectly in one spot while the others formed up behind him. Once the formation was filled the leader took a very soft left turn and they were gone riding the wind at an incredible clip. Since I was also being blown unmercifully, a decent capture was almost impossible....and of course I had a long lens on!

Only able to get the leaders.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
