Driving down the street I happened to notice this scene and snapped one.

I couldn't resist pulling over and asking the guy in the mask what was going
on. He's taking a photography class at a local college, and the assignment
was to take a really off-beat photo of himself. The camera is set to delayed
shutter, and the guy with his back to us is just an observer.

Unfortunately, the student has the camera positioned so close that the
effect of the background will be lost. Or not. He'll have some good colors.

Also, the poor guy didn't have a remote, so he had to depress the shutter,
run around the hedge, and hope that he was in the right position. He must
have done this ten times while I was watching.

I do this all the time, too. I have a remote, but it's a 3-foot one (I'm not even sure why I purchased the thing sometimes), and that makes it fairly useless for the things I do. Probably ought to just get a wireless controller, but it's a lot of cash money for something I'm not horribly interested in doing a lot of.

The wireless remote for my Nikon was under $10. Not Nikon brand, but
the genuine Nikon is available online for $16.99. I bought two of the $10
ones thinking I'll eventually misplace one.

What I like more about this is the story behind the shot. I really admire new photographers (me included mwink.gif ) that would visualize something and take the chance to take the shot. Knowing if a shot or an idea would work or not has more weight for me when it comes to learning. 3 thumbs to you, Tony. :Dthumb.gifthumbthumb.gifclap.gifclapclap.gif

I had to make a choice here. I could have zoomed in on the man's
head and shown the gas mask in more detail, or pull back and get in
the full effect of the mural.

I chose the latter because it seemed the close shot would just be
    replicating the photography student's shot.

Frankly, I like the shot itself. Without the story. The mural, the mask, the guy's posture, even th tripod nd guy in he foreground. Nice wTF?!
