Lens matchup with D800E

I currently own a D700 that I use almost exclusively for landscape photography. I am going to switch to the 800E and need some information on the best lenses to use with it. I currently have a 24 - 70 F2.8, 50mm prime 1.4 and a 70 - 200 f2.8 VR

The 24 - 70 is disappointing and does not compare to the quality of the other two lenses. I am not sure if I just have an inferior lens, or that lens just doesn't measure up. It would be foolish to buy the 800E and not match it up with lenses that can perform to the level necessary to get the most out of the 800E.

Anyone have any recommendations? This will be used primarily for landscape and nature photography.

I think I might have a defect in mine based on what other people say about it. It is not as sharp, nor does it have as much contrast as my two other lenses. If I compare a shot at 70mm taken with the 24 - 70 with one taken at 70mm with the 70 - 200, the latter has more contrast and it is sharper. Same f stop with both lenses.

I just got them both, I'll have to try messing around with a comparison too. (On the 800 of course)

thanks for the link. Sounds like my lens has a defect. I will pursue that with Nikon. The test results for the 24 - 70 look great.
