Removing the Buy option

I'm a new SmugMug user and previously I was using MobileMe Galleries.

I am primarily using SmugMug to host snapshops for family and friends to view so the Buy and View Cart are not needed and I would like to remove these options. Is there a way to do this?

Hi, welcome. Simple - just go to Tools>Gallery Settings and set printing to "No."

I just discovered the answer Duh! and was about to post a "nevermind" but you were to fast with the solution. Awesome support! Thanks!

    Not so simple.

Currently, I have turned off printing on all galleries. That seemed to work until I added 'popular photos' to my home page. It shows two photos, both of which link to a 'subgallery' (the same) showing again those two photos. Only there, suddenly a buy and a cart button show up!

How do I prevent these buttons being generated?

I have temporarily just hidden them with a style rule, but of course that is not a real solution as a visitor can easily override this. The buttons simply should not be generated at all when both photos belong to a gallery where (like all) printing has been turned off!

I'm new too but when I click on Tools I don't have a "Gallery Settings". It shows Account Settings and when I click on that still don't see a Gallery Settings..

The gallery settings will be visible when you are in a gallery - not on your home page and not in Account settings.

You will need to set printable to no for every gallery in which you want to remove the buy option.

    See help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93307-where-are-my-gallery-settings-.

Unfortunately there are no 'gallery' settings for 'popular photos'... so no apparent way to turn off the print option!

    Add this to your CSS.

    .keywordPage #cartButtonsWrapper,
    .popularGallery #cartButtonsWrapper {display:none;}

Thanks Allen. But as I mentioned, I have already hidden them - as a temporary measure. But as long as those buttons exist a savvy user could easily UNhide them and buy something I do not want to be for sale, certainly not if I'm not earning anything on it.

Hiding the buttons is not a solution, it's a stop-gap. It must be possible to have them not generated at all, and I consider it a bug that the buttons are generated for photos belonging to a gallery where printing has been turned off (and the buttons are not generated at all).

Effectively you are telling me this same bug exists on a keyword page? Looks like it's worse than I thought...

Not one photo that you do not offer for sale in a gallery can be bought, no mater what page you're on. Try it, you'll get
a "photo not for sale" or something like that message. But if a visitor finds a photo on a popular, keyword or date page,
they can buy it if its original gallery has it for sale.

That sounds somewhat reassuring, Allen. Except that in that case it seems the buttons are merely there to annoy people who may click on them only to find out they won't work. ne_nau.gif Not very user-friendly now, is it?

So now the question becomes; why is SmugMug generating buttons that cannot be used??? Still smells like a bug to me. eek7.gif

(Oh wait - date page, as well? *sigh*. What else?)

Keep in mind that the keyword, timeline etc galleries are generated dynamically. So they may contain photos that are available for sale. Right now the way the system works, the buy buttons show at all times and if you don't want them to show, you could only customize them away as Allen suggested.
