As lame as this sounds I don't exactly remember. It was awhile back. Here's the original:

    self-portrait-full.jpg

So I expect I cut out but the face, I mean obviously, which is a small part of the shot, blew it up, changed it to B&W, then Sepia, and likely increased "contrast" a fair amount or "highlight" so the highlights pretty much disappeared as a recognizable part of the face - the far left of the face (from viewer's perspective) is really blown out in the original - and becomes merely part of the background as the Sketch - white. That's my guess looking at the Sketch with the original.

But not much more than an educated guess.

Glad you like it. Sorry I had to give such a nose-picker of a response as to how I did it.

"Duh....... I pwessed the green button..."

By the way, to take the shot, which was in NYC, Columbus Circle, I sat on the edge of the monument and put the camera on a bench nearby - propped it up and used a timer in the camera so I could set myself as the subject.

It was shot with 35mm film.
