Trying hard to stay away from the sun and did a pretty good job but have yet to master the art of flash or lack thereof :))))

What do you think?

Your are on the right track now.

Background is too visible and takes attention from the composition.
I think all three need a little bit more light into the subjects faces.
(Perhaps a piece of white foam filling up?).
    JMHO.

    Thank you.
Yes more light would be nice.
I didnt use my flash much because a mutiny was taking place.
I got to control the situation better, soon.
I should also buy a 50 mm because my 24- 70 at 2.8 didnt totally do a perfect job.

1st of all..bump your exposure in post by maybe 3/4 of stop. Expose for the skin tones...this will over expose the dappled sun ligh tin the back.. then crank down your highlights to reduce the hot spots. The dappled sun light will still be distracting but I think it will lok better then current. Also add a vignette to as well.

Always turn your subjects head toward the flash not away and you will like the results better.......direction of light.

Did you shoot the pics with 24-70 2.8, what make on what body? A Nikon or Canon is more than capable of a delivering a perfect job.

I'm surprised no one mentioned, "Watch out for tree limbs growing out of subjects heads."

Ha ah ha you are killing me I didnt even notice the tree limbs, since I was so focus on lighting and mutiny Laughing.gif
    Canon 30 D 24-70 2.8 sigma.
    Only first pic has flash.
Maybe I should get a 50 mm 1.8 or 1.4 because even when I used the 2.8 there is always the background poping up.

    Thank you all

I would also consider a reflector or two. It looks more natural than flash.
