This picture was taken on a lake in southern Louisiana (Lake Verret). We have plenty of great egrets but this one has green legs and a light beak with a black tip. Would this be a white morph of a great blue heron?

Thanks for posting. I'm glad to see this. I've heard Little Blue Heron juveniles were white, but hadn't seen one. Best, Pam

Thanks. The only photos I have of a juvenile Little Blue Heron were two years ago. Exact same time of the year but they were already blue and white.

Little blues are white for the first year of their lives. The reason for this is that there is safety in numbers. Since there are a whole lot more snowy egrets & the snowys will tolerate their presence if they are all white.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
