I'm looking into getting a light meter, to be exact the Sekonic L358. B&H has good reviews on it.

What do you guys think? BTW, I really don't want to go over $500.00 or so.

Any feedback would be great.

thanks

yeah I have the L358. beautiful little device. limited compared to higher model, in particular for spot metering and video applications. the radio chip for it would be very nice if you have compatible triggers

a little searching and you might find some of the used spot meters for under $500....Sekonic has always been very good to me.
    Currently using a L558C .... here is a review of it ... ...
and for sale on EBAY ... ... they still command decent prices
depending on your needs something as simple as a Wein 500 for well under a $100 new could do the trick...they are boxy and ugly
    but very accurate.

Art, thanks for the reply. My eye is on the L358. It's has god reviews, has rempte capability etc... hence the interest..

That;s for the reply. I dont; do a lot of video so thats a non issue.
What's the big limit with the spot metering?

As for triggers I have the PocketWizard TT5 and a TT1. Any issues with those?

No issues. The optional radio trigger for the l358 is a pocket wizard one, so triggering your strobes is trivial and worth the additional cost I the end.

spot metering is a level of sophistication higher for certain uses. I think you can do spot metering with the L358, with the dome removed (but check that!), but I think you don't get all the measurement options as with the higher models. there's a very big difference in price, as you know, so you would have to need it bad!

You can get a spot meter attachment for the 358, some removed gives you reflective metering, but it's a wide field.
