Shard opening ceremony - London.

The Shard's opening ceremony ended with a laser light show that lit up London. Twelve lasers and 30 searchlights lit up the night sky, to celebrate the external completion of The Shard - Europe's tallest building (for now anyway).

I got there nice and early, to secure a decent spot to shoot from, but as time went on, I had to fend off many a drunken person, to ensure my tripod wasn't bumped. Keeping the camera steady, for 15-30 second exposures wasn't at all easy.

Lots of people left feeling let down and disappointed by the event, I guess they were expecting fireworks and huge explosions.

Here are a few photographs from the event, I think I captured some pretty decent images, what do you guys think?

Like number one the most. I would like to see a close up image of the new building to a feeling of its height. Where is this in London?

Hi Phil, thanks for your comment.

The picture was taken on Embankment, just over the river from the South Bank.

Maybe this picture will give you a better sense of how high (308 meters) it is on the London landscape...

That it does - good shot.

I forgotten that it has been about 7 or 8 years since I been in London. Beautiful city. Certainly one of my favorite international cities.

I note that you are a CAD tech. I suppose that supports your interest in architecture photography?

    Thanks Phil.

London is a great place to visit right now, the Olympics are just 20 days away, so there's lots of things going on.
