My friend borrowed me some m42 macro tubes, and I used them with helios 44m...here is a setup
I made diffuser from styrofoam cup...previous diffusers was better, but way bigger, and I needded a smaller one, so i made this...

Not sure what a diffuser like that is doing. You really need some way of directing the light downwards a bit plus some diffusion material over the front
Brian...thanks...I know what you mean, and I tried your method, but that didn't work well for me...with mine diffuser some light pass trough styrofoam, and direct flash illuminate the background...
I'm seeing them too, today. I went through all your posts last night and all your images were not showing up for me. Might have been that your hosting site was down? Dunno. Anyway, now they're working. All good.

Actually, you would be better off with a larger one. If you want a quality soft light, that is more even and doesn't cast shadows, you need a light source that is large. The larger the better. It also needs to be as close as possible to the subject, which can often be a problem with macro if you are in a confined space. You need some diffusion fabric on the front, as Brian said.

I put a cover on diffuser
1. and 2. shot was made with flash in slave mode I need to make some flash bracket
