Download photo allowed? Virtual copy vs actual copy.

So I have my site up and running. I would like some photos to be download from a gallery that I've password protected. I've collected photos from other galleries into this download gallery. They are virtual linked photos.

The only problem is they are not downloadable from this Gallery. I've set the download gallery to be original size with no protection but it won't work. I'm guessing they are using the original galleries settings.

So question. Every picture I would like to have downloaded in my password protected gallery need to be an actually copy. So I need to make a copy and then move, is this correct? This is a lot more work and a lot more storage space.

Please advise..

Collected photos always obey the properties of the original gallery, I'm sorry. So yes, you'd have to upload new, or make copies and move. I wish I had a better answer for you.

If you don't need the photos in the original galleries, I'd just move them to the other gallery. Otherwise, it would probably just be quicker to upload new copies to this gallery.

I have a pretty alpha piece of code for copying galleries that I hired someone to create (that abandoned it and didn't finish it but still got paid...grrr). If you feel like testing it out, PM me and I'll send you a link.

To me, virtual copies at SM in many respects work exactly the opposite to how I'd want them to work. This is one example. Another one is statistics: I want to see them in the gallery where visitors saw the photos, anything else just doesn't make sense to me.

Pure Energy

I'd hate to find out I screwed up and sold prints in a virtual gallery or allowed them to be downloaded because I didn't triple-check the settings. If I were buying a virtual photo for more money, I'd not be happy to find out it was cheaper elsewhere on the same site. Tis simpler and safer to know the original settings are honored. Having not set up any virtual galleries yet, I second a motion towards knowing where people see a particular photo.
