While was shooting moon shots friday night with my 100-400 zoom with TC1.4x, I leveled the camera at the city and snapped one as well. I thought it was kind of a cool effect and came out pretty well, despite my really crappy tripod. F11, 1.6s, ISO1600. And this was from 33 miles away!

BTW, look at the blinking light from the plane. Kinda funny.

    Wow!
I think you did amazingly good.
I mean, the image is soft, no questions about it, but for 33 miles distance - wow!
And it's not the tripod methinks: at this distance and at this lighting conditions shooting parallel to the earth surface *will* distort the image due to the natural air convection/refraction. It's pure physics, nothing you can do about it but to endure itne_nau.gif

Thanks, Nikolai. You're probably right that one can only do so well at that distance due to atmostphere. I'm still going to buy a good tripod though. It takes me a dozen shots to get one like this that isn't blurred. Thanks again for looking!
