Lightroom Question

Can someone explain what these options do? :huh

I am wondering if I select file only or metadata only what happens? If I change keywords, etc it would be nice if only the metadata would upload, not the whole file again. But if I pick that, then does the file NEVER reupload if it is recropped or something? Just wondering...

The Republishing section controls how the data is handled for RE-publishing only (ie, after you've already initially uploaded). This allows you to have more control over how republishing happens when you make changes to an image after it's already been uploaded to SmugMug. So, if you want to change keywords for images you've already uploaded to SmugMug, but don't want to reupload the entire file again, select Metadata only in the republishing section. That will just upload your metadata changes, without uploading the file itself. If you did select Metadata only, and you had cropped an image you're republishing, that change would not be reflected in your SmugMug gallery; only the metadata would be changed. Select File & Metadata to get both your edits and metadata changes to be synced.

    Thanks, that helps.

So, say I have "File and Metadata" checked. I change only keywords/captions and hit publish. Is it smart enough to upload only the metadata in that case?

As far as I know, the plugin will do what you set it to. So if you select "file and metadata" it should do exactly that and republish the whole file. If you don't want that, change the setting to the one you prefer.
