Hey guys,
I'm a part time photojournalist in Columbia SC and just a few days ago my Nikon D7000 crapped out on me. So I did a blog post about how I dealt with the crappy situation. It helped to talk about it.

However, you didn't go into much detail of your camera's current state. I owned a D7000 and know it is pretty robust for it's class. My question is why write it off as dead so soon? Send it in to Nikon for a check up. It might be a quick fit or at worst need a new shutter assembly which is only a few hundred dollar repair.
Good luck to you and it's good to see people really "using" there equipment.
