here is an iteresting thread on lens manufacture and design.
it starts off on zeiss lenses,but progresses to discuss apochromatic design etc and includes contributions from optical engineers- it should be of general interest to all
comparing the construction and design of my Takumars was pleasing as they have cemented elements which are very rare these days due to the manufacturing costs.
i read somewhere else that a Pentax engineer claims that these days to make a lens to the same standard as the 50/1.4 SMC Takumar would require a sale price of US$1500.enough crowing about my takumars-here is the link
