Very cool shot even though the lighting is unfortunate by its nature.

Wow. Great capture, we are still dealing with the aftermath of the fires in Colorado. I went up the Poudre river canyon a few days ago, all the trails are still closed and the river black with ashes.

Thanks for saying Juano :D Pretty sweet to get a grade like that. Appreciate your noting your experiences on the Poudere River. River black with ashes. Did you by chance decide in favor of taking pictures? I am thinking you must have. These would be interesting to see. I know it is a tough thing to go to a favored area after a fire there and be good with it. It took me years to come to a better understanding of the benefits of wild fires. Where there are benefits and not scored earth destruction that can take a hell of a long time to recover from.

Mary Kim I am delighted you like this result to that extent. A real confidence builder to get such remarks from ones piers :D Thank you much!
It was kind of an accident to even get the shot. I was taking Milky Way long exposures with my son and noticed a slight red glow west side of frame. Its appearance could not be seen naked eye. Building clouds enhanced that glow with each picture taken. Once I decided it had to be a fire, we moved to the east side of the lake to position the glow better in frame and to get light reflection on the water. A see what we might get kind of thing. I will blame the dark that I drove so close to the waters edge. Previous tire tracks indicated firm ground as those tracks were not deep. Well, it wasn't firm for us and we nearly stuck the truck and I was having visions of walking a couple miles back to camp. rolleyes1.gifGod bless God and 4 wheel drive for getting us back to solid ground a mere 20' from my stuck point. I was truly thinking I wasn't going to make even that short distance as 4 low would not engage. So much so that I pulled the shift knob off in my desperate bid to get clear. I had no idea that knob could even come off headscratch.gifD 4 High pulled it off though. They say that if you have to go to 4 Low you shouldn't even be there lol3.gif I am going to wait to clean the tires off as a reminder to self. And yes I took pictures of my tire tracks after we got loose. A must have.

What an adventure you had taking this photo .. glad to hear you didn't get stuck, but WOW ... it was well worth the ride :D As for 4 Low .. happened to me in snow. Scared the hubby since it was his side that was sliding downrolleyes1.gif4 Low worked beautifully once the hubby settled down and remembered to tell me to use it.

Super glue the knob back on thumb.gif
