It's the time of year for downtown cycling criteriums. There are a few favorites from the Cascade Cycling Classic Twilight Criterium in downtown Bend, Oregon.

Women's Pro Cat 1/2

#1 - Intensity on the starting line

#2

#3 - Leader checking out the pack

Mens Pro Cat 1

#4 - Emerging into a shaft of light beaming through a side street

#5 - Cornering - missed a nasty crash here earlier

I'm curious to know which version of the final image folks like better:

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Lots of interesting and intense shots to be had at the start line in the second before the gun!

#6 for me. #4 might work better as a square crop of the right side? #3 is really good!

Nice stuff and perfect timing. I was doing research on shots as I am shooting this for the first time tomorrow.

These are all great. You have a good eye for comps. I like the color version of #6. And the panning shot is just awesome. thumb.gif

    Thanks a lot, everyone.

On #4, I considered cropping out the leading rider in shadow but in the end, I decided to leave him there for context and leading space for the main subjects. I think the idea for a square crop on the lit riders would look great.

And thanks to everyone for the feedback on color vs b&w. I love the golden light so that was my first take on it too, but I started wondering how it would play in b&w.

    Thanks again.

JSP, have fun!!! Criteriums are great shooting... you get lots of opportunities and different types of shots within a relatively small area. And be ready for anything in the corners!
